Join the Audubon Society of Portland, Humane Voters Oregon, the Humane Society of the United States, Oregon Wild, and WildEarth Guardians for In-District Wildlife Lobby Day the week of January 20. We will schedule a single meeting that week with each legislator so that you and others from the same district can meet with your legislators (one representative and one senator) to advocate for humane treatment of Oregon's wildlife.

This year, participants will ask their lawmakers to support a bill to ban coyote-killing contests - a bill we expect to be introduced in the 2020 Oregon Legislative Session that begins in February. A similar bill was introduced in the 2019 legislative session but, despite overwhelming support, fell victim to end-of-session partisan deal making

Thankfully, Representative Brad Witt, chair of the House Committee on Natural Resources, has agreed to reintroduce the bill in the 2020 "short" session of the Oregon Legislature. In his own words, “this time we will pass it!” We believe him! But we will need your voice and presence to do that because we will continue to face misguided opposition from anti-wildlife interests in Salem.

Oregon lawmakers are currently living lives not too different from our own, staying busy with careers, families, and other activities beyond their elected position. Still, legislators care about the issues that matter most to their constituents, and there is no better time to build a relationship with your state lawmakers than during Oregon In-District Wildlife Lobby Day.

So please continue to turn your passion to protect Oregon’s wildlife into action by taking part in In-District Wildlife Lobby Day and helping ensure that Oregon bans coyote-killing contests once and for all.
