Help Ban Traveling Animal Acts in Multnomah County

Multnomah County Commissioners plan to consider on Thursday, June 14, a proposal to ban traveling animal acts, such as circuses, from the county. The draft ordinance recognizes, among other things, that "[w]ild or exotic animals used in traveling animal displays suffer severe and extended confinement," and that "[t]he use of wild or exotic animals for entertainment contributes to the trade of these animals by perpetuating their breeding and sale." If you live in Multnomah County, please contact your commissioner and encourage her to support this ban. Find out here who your commissioner is and how to contact her. You can also attend the commission meeting, which starts at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, and testify to support the ordinance. The meeting will be at the Multnomah Building at 501 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd., Room 100, Portland. To learn more about how to testify, and to see the official agenda, go here.
