We are generally waiting until after the primary elections to make endorsements this year. However, we decided to endorse one candidate we really like in a closely contested primary. As a state senator from District 19 (including Lake Oswego, SW Portland, Tualatin and West Linn), Richard Devlin has been a reliable supporter of animal welfare. He scored 100% on both of our legislative scorecards (2015 and 2016) and voted against a bad bill for wolves despite significant political pressure to vote for it. His two main opponents both have mixed records on animal protection. The Secretary of State doesn't ordinarily decide a lot of animal issues, but the Secretary has one of three seats on the board that decides how state lands are managed, which affects wildlife. The Secretary also is first in line if something happens to the governor. We realize it's late in the game (sorry), but if you are voting in the Democratic primary and you haven't already voted, we urge animal lovers to vote for Richard Devlin!
