Primary Voting Begins - See Our Endorsements

Ballots and Voters' Pamphlets for the May 19 primary election are arriving in mailboxes. If you are registered as a Democratic or a Republican, you can vote for your party's nominees for the November general election. If you are not registered with one of those parties, you can still vote for nonpartisan offices and measures.

Humane Voters Oregon has endorsed several candidates running in the primaries for state and local offices. You can find our endorsements here. We may also make additional endorsements over the next few days, so check back before you vote if you don't see an endorsement for a race in your area (although we will not be making endorsements in every race).

Our endorsements are based on candidates' responses to our endorsement questionnaire, their voting records on issues affecting animals, and information such as leadership on animal welfare and actions taken behind the scenes.

Election Day, May 19, is the last day to return your ballot. You may return it to a ballot drop box, directly to your County Elections Office, or by mail. Ballots that are mailed must be postmarked by election day and received within seven days of election day.

Thank you considering animal welfare when you vote! You can also help us support animal-friendly candidates by donating to our political action committe, Humane Voters Oregon PAC (click the top "Donate" button on this page). We use money contributed to our PAC to support candidates in the name of animal welfare. That helps animal-friendly candidates get elected. It also helps make animals a higher priority when proposed new laws are being considered. Your contributioin may also qualify for a tax credit of up to $50 for an individual or $100 on a joint return. (See our donation page for further information.)

Finally, you can help candidates think more about animal welfare by telling those we endorsed in your area that you value our endorsement. You can generally find contact information for a candidate's campaign with a quick internet search. (Be sure to use the contact informaton for their campaign office, not their government office, because they are required to keep government business and campaign business separate.)

Thank you again for helping us make animal welfare a more important issue in Oregon's political process and elections!
